The Little Gym: Growing our Community Through Movement and Fun

With Myrtle Beach quickly becoming a popular destination and its active growth throughout our community, it is no surprise that owners Henry and Angela Lewandowski decided to open The Little Gym franchise here. But I’m sure you're asking yourself, What is The Little Gym? And how does it help our community? We had the same questions so our owner and Community Liaison here at Communication Cottage Therapy decided to stop by and say hello. And wow were they surprised!

Besides being a new and exciting place, The Little Gym has wonderful owners, Henry and Angela Lewandowski. The Lewandowski family is originally from NY but moved to the beach, like many others in 2022. Henry spoke to our team about the reasons for wanting to bring The Little Gym to our area. They discussed their own experience when their son was born. They described how New York at the time was still on heavy lockdown due to COVID so unfortunately their son did not get a lot of social interaction. Once the restrictions began to lift, they began looking for activities or social groups that they could take him to. That is when they found The Little Gym! They quickly fell in love with The Little Gym’s ability to socialize not only their young child but themselves with a like minded community. When they moved they were excited to place him back into the program and tried to enroll him but to their surprise Myrtle Beach did not have a location and the closest one in SC was over an hour away. Henry and Angela decided to bring this 3 dimensional learning experience to Myrtle Beach to help foster a sense of belonging and community. The same one that they once experienced themselves as members prior to owning this location. They are dedicated to ensuring that every child and their family feels valued and supported throughout their journey with The Little Gym.

As therapy providers here at Communication Cottage Therapy, we often hear parents talk about how they’re looking for a safe and nurturing environment for their child to grow, socialize and learn. A place Moms and Dads can meet others as well. At The Little Gym, you can find an educational based gymnastics program that allows just that.

The Little Gym is located right in the beginning of Market Commons at 1390 Farrow Parkway in Myrtle Beach. The Little Gym is a unique establishment that not only provides a fun outlet for children starting at ages 4 months to 12 years old, but also offers structured classes that match the vision we have here at Communication Cottage Therapy.

With free intro classes, birthday parties, and summer camps, The Little Gym is dedicated to empowering our community through movement and fun.

At The Little Gym each of their classes begin with a 5-7 minute circle time, engaging in their “Hello Song” before then dismissing to other activities or individual stations. For the younger classes one parent per child is invited to attend the class and assist in the guidance through each station. In the older classes the instructions focus on direction following and independence. If you’re wondering when you should start taking your little one to parent and child gym classes, the answer is, it’s never too soon. As mentioned on The Little Gym website, as well as what is promoted at Communication Cottage, the earlier you start engaging with your baby, the better. “Studies have shown that babies who get more exercise at an early age tend to be healthier as they grow up.” This is exciting because most places throughout the GrandStrand start closer to 3! The infant and toddler classes provide a strong foundation for children during their critical first 3 years, and create a fun space to share in the excitement (and exhaustion) with other parents.

The Little Gym strives to achieve that each interaction fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie among families, creating a supportive network within the community. Every month focuses on a new theme and skill, as well as continuing to provide at-home milestones for carryover and growth. Through their tumble mates, balance beams and different stations, The Little Gym encourages engagement through experienced instructors guiding and motivating each child, as they are encouraged to push their boundaries and reach their full potential in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Not only does The Little Gym offer a variety of children’s enrichment programs they also offer events such as their Read, Move and Grow and their Parent Survival Night. Both of these events give our community more opportunities to come together and foster learning through growth. We all know it takes a village. Throughout each class or event The Little Gym promotes early social skills all the way up to advanced gymnastics depending on the age group. They really do have something for every child to thrive and grow.

At Communication Cottage Therapy, we believe in the power of collaboration and community involvement. By partnering with local businesses and organizations, such as The Little Gym, we aim to create a network of support that enhances the overall well-being of our families.

We hope that through events, sponsorships, and collaborations, we not only promote physical activity but also reinforce the motor, sensory and communication milestones that support the whole child and their family.  These partnerships not only benefit our cottage family but also foster a sense of unity and collective growth. Stay tuned to learn more about our future collaborations and initiatives!
